Masjid Shah Alam, or called Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque has become the symbol of supremacy and sovereignty of the religion of Islam in this country. Sultan of Selangor Darul Ehsan was doing the opening ceremony on March 11 1988 along 23 Rajab 1408 AH. As head of Islam Selangor State, he was following the tradition practiced by the great leader, Muhammad built a mosque in which there is no gauge compare around the world.

The mosque is the second largest mosque in Southeast Asia after Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, Indonesia.

When The sultan of Selangor at that time, the late Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah declared Shah Alam as the new capital of Selangor on the 14th February 1974. He issue a decree that a state mosque be built there. Construction of state mosque also known as The Blue Mosque, was completed on the 11th of March 1988. It has the tallest minarets and the largest dome in the South East Asia, and can accommodate up to 24,000 worshipers. The mosque has 2 levels, with the main prayer hall located on the ground floor while the upper floor is reserved for women

The entire floor of the mosque is furnished with high quality wool carpets with geometric patterns on blue background. The dome of the state mosque, with diameter of 170 feet and reaching 350 feet above ground level, currently is the biggest in the world. Four minarets were erected at the four corner to guard the dome. The 460 feet minarets are the tallest in the world. Calligraphic inscription can be seen on the inner and outer surface of the dome and at the main praying hall.calligraphic inscription displayed in this mosque are the work of renowned calligrapher from Egypt, Sheikh Abdel Moheim Mohamed Ali El Sharkawi, who was assisted by the local calligraphers.
