Muzium Negara or National Museum is located on the fringe of Taman Tasik Perdana (Lake Garden Kuala Lumpur) which was built in 1963. It houses Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage and as a centre for imparting knowledge on the country’s historical past. It is an architectural work of art which offers many viewing pleasure. From time to time, thematic exhibitions are also being held at the museum.
Once you enter the museum, there will be a large main entrance hall with two exhibitions wings located side by side. In those wings (upstairs and downstairs) comprises a Historical Gallery, a Metalwork and Musical Instruments Gallery, a Cultural Gallery, a National Sports Gallery and a Natural History Gallery.
The museum have four main galleries. In each of these galleries, you will find an array of unique and interesting displays sure to captivate your mind.
Cultural Gallery has culture exhibitions, involving exhibitions on shadow play, costumes and rituals in Malaysia. Collection of various aspects of the Malaysian culture, from common everyday pastimes to important ceremonial customs that includes Malay wedding scene, a royal circumcision ceremony, and an presentation on the heritage of the Straits-born Chinese.
Historical Gallery holds an exhibition on the Faces of Malaysia, a look at the difference and similarities between the many races in the country.
Natural History Gallery, you will be introduced to Nature, its history and it's many forms of life. The last gallery,
Metalwork and Musical Instruments Gallery, is divided into three sub-categories, weapons, music and ceramic, and here you will see displays of each from the past and present times. This gallery showcases various objects and utensils from kitchenware and ceremonial ornaments to weapons and traditional instruments of Malaysian music.
We also have 3 galleries in the museum that holds temporary exhibits,
The Main Hall, Gallery 1 or the Royal Gallery and lastly, Gallery 2. These halls holds a variety of temporary exhibits on interesting matters.
Apart from the permanent exhibitions, the museum also holds regular thematic exhibitions, most notably its Treasures from the Graves, Enduring Beauty and World of Ghosts exhibits that drawn large crowd of curious visitors.
