Perak Museum was built in 1883.It is the country’s oldest museum that has displays almost 3000 artifacts on zoology, pre-history, economy and ethnology.
It is located just opposite Taiping Jail and is within the vicinity of Taiping Lake Gardens. It contains an exciting collection of archaeological treasures like ancient weapons, aboriginal implements and ornaments that reflect Perak’s rich historical heritage.
This museum displays all kinds of rare collections that includes more than 100-year old of animal species such as “Banturong” and “Pulasan”. There are about 5,074 cultural collections, 523 nature collections and 2,877 miscellaneous items. These collections are categorized in four main galleries, named nature gallery, cultural gallery, indigeneous people gallery and clay works gallery.
Nature Gallery exhibits all kinds of animals, birds, fish and snail. Many of these stuffed animals and their habitats can be clearly seen in the form of dioramas.
Cultural Gallery displays many types of handicrafts and weavings.
Indigenous people gallery displays the handiworks and music instruments from the indigenous people of Perak such as the Negrito, the Senoi and the Proto-Malay tribes.
Clay works gallery exhibits artifacts that includes old vases and water containers.

This beautiful museum is located in Jalan Taming Sari, only a few minutes' drive from Taiping town and within walking distance from the Taiping Lake Garden. You can also take a bus from the Medab Kidd bus terminal.
