The Chetty Museum is located within the Chitty Settlement in Gajah Berang, Melaka. It is very strategic in attracting more tourists into the Melaka state. The museum holds a collection of artifacts and archives of the daily life of the Chitty community.
Chitty community is one one the races found in Melaka which has many unique characteristics that cannot be found in the other state. They perpetuate the heritage of their ancestors since immemorial which was originated from India. Eventhough, they are not verbally fluent in Tamil because of the intermarriage with the local community, they have made the Malay language as their mother tongue until to this day.
This museum is the effort made by the Chitty’s community to document and preserved their unique heritage. Tool, clothes and accessories used by this community in their daily life as well as during special occasions such as wedding ceremonies, cooking, and clothing are the main attraction in this museum dedicated to this small but resilient minority community in the state.
