The Istana Jahar was a royal residence in Kota Bharu in Malaysia. It was built in 1855 by Sultan Muhammad II of Kelantan for his grandson Long Kundur. The palace has a pentagon-shaped porte-cochere, achingly beautiful chocolate-brown with the first floor balcony from which members of the royal family could watch ceremonies held in front of the palace.
This palace is finely carved out of wood with complex patterns; a conspicuous testimony of fine craftsmanship employed by the people in the state. This Istana Jahar now has been transformed into a museum showcasing Kelantan’s culture and most attractive traditional buildings in the city.
