Pahang National Park is the largest National Park in Malaysia which covers over 2,477km². Being one of the world’s oldest tropical rainforest it is a sanctuary to hundreds of species of birds, butterflies, insects, fish and plants. Pahang National Park is also home to Malaysia’s friendly aborigines, the Orang Asli, a shy yet gentle race, which continue to live the nomadic way they’ve lived for centuries although fully aware of the country’s fastest-paced progress.
The staging point to visits Park is Kuala Tembeling from which a 3 hour boat ride upriver takes visitors to Kuala Tahan, the park headquarters. The Park has been developed into a famous ecotourism destination in Malaysia. There are several geological and biological attractions in the park including Mount Tahan as the highest point of the Malay Peninsular.
Moreover, Pahang National Park is homed to some rare mammals, such as the Indochinese Tiger, Crab-eating macaque, Sumatran Rhinoceros, Great Argus, Red Junglefowl, Malayan Gaur or “seladang” and Asian Elephant. Among the birdlife, the rare Malayan Peacock-pheasant is still found here in some numbers. Tahan River has been preserved to protect the Malaysian Mahseer or locally known as “ikan kelah”. Others attractions found in Pahang National Park includes a canopy walkway, Gua Telinga (cave system) and Lata Berkoh (rapid). Visitors can enjoy the tropical rain forest, bird watching or jungle trekking and the river views along the Tahan River. Accommodations in form of hostels and hotels also provided.
